[HD video below] At the World Savers Congress held last week in
Singapore as part of STB's TravelRave concept, Ms. Nicole Conner -
a Crime Prevention Associate at the United Nations Office on Drugs
and Crime (UNODC) - spoke about the disturbing topic of human
trafficking and the travel industry.
Ms. Conner was speaking in the place of the
Academy Award-winning actress and activist, Ms. Mira Sorvino who
is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNODC.
Human trafficking, which comes in many different
forms, is a 32-billion dollar a year business that is surpassed
only by drugs and arms.
"There is a lot that corporations can do," Ms
Connor said, praising what Carlson Companies has done, and in
particular its founder Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,
Marilyn Carlson Nelson, who Ms. Connor called a trailblazer in the
fight against human trafficking when "she committed her travel
companies to a global code of conduct that seeks to protect
children from commercial sexual exploitation in travel and
tourism."
