[HD videos below] Studio M Hotel in Singapore, the latest addition
to the Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C) group is looking to
hire passionate, dynamic individuals in a two-day recruitment
exercise starting today (26 January 2010). No prior hospitality
industry experience is required.
In addition, the hotel
has forged a partnership with the NTUC Women’s Development
Secretariat (WDS), and will be offering flexi-work hours in a
bid to help attract more women back into the workforce. NTUC
WDS was formed to help working women and to encourage more females
to reenter the workforce.
“The hotel is offering many exciting job
opportunities and their flexible work options, which the NTUC
WDS is also pushing for, would provide our female job seekers with
the flexibility needed to balance work and family while also
meeting the Hotel’s business needs,” said Madam Halimah Yacob,
NTUC Deputy Secretary-General, and WDS Director. “NTUC WDS
and the Hotel will work together to help job seekers adapt to the
job requirements including undergoing training. I urge our
female job seekers to take full advantage of this
opportunity.”
Studio M Hotel aims to make
work at the new hotel a fun and enriching experience, said Mr Ng Chee Theam, Chief Operating Officer (Asia) of Millennium &
Copthorne International Limited (MCIL), a wholly owned
subsidiary of M&C.
“Our aim is to cultivate a new breed of
employee, for a new breed of hotel,” said Mr Ng. “Studio M is
a smart hotel with a fresh attitude – that’s exactly what we’re
looking for in a candidate to join us.”
The new brand
is a cross between a boutique, and business hotel - targeted at
the cool, savvy traveler. Mirroring the hotel’s unique
cosmopolitan architecture, Studio M Hotel staff will also exude the same hip attitude, ensuring a memorable experience for
guests. “A Studio M staff member is someone with a
creative flair, and a desire to meet new people,” he added.
Studio M Hotel has 365
distinctive rooms that will offer guests 24-hours integrated
technology and wireless connectivity. The interiors and
open-air tropical deck are designed by renowned Italian
designer and architect Piero Lissoni to create a sleek yet
comfortable environment.
Under the Skills Programme for
Upgrading and Resilience (SPUR) – the government-led
development initiative – future employees at Studio M will also
receive comprehensive training in customer service and related
hospitality fields. Staff may also be accredited under the
Singapore Workforce Skills Development Qualifications (WSQ)
programme – a nationally recognized credentialing system.
The Studio M Hotel is located at Robertson Quay and is the
latest addition to the M&C chain, with an intended 50 hotels
worldwide in the next five years. Since the launch of the brand
last November, Studio M Hotel has been recruiting staff in
preparation for its official opening in May.
London-listed
M&C is a subsidiary of City Developments Limited (CDL), a leading
property group listed on the Singapore Exchange. Both are part
of the Hong Leong Group Singapore. M&C is one of largest owned
and managed hotel operators in the world with 120 hotels with
36,000 rooms and 24,000 employees across 18 countries. In
Singapore, M&C’s hotels include the Orchard Hotel and Grand
Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. The Hong Leong Group also counts the
St Regis Singapore Hotel as part of its portfolio.
The
recruitment drive comes at a time when the hospitality sector is
recovering strongly as the global economy comes out of its
deepest recession in decades. The opening of the Integrated
Resorts has also created a buzz here and reinforced M&C’s positive
outlook for growth of the hospitality sector this year. M&C
employees over 1,300 staff locally, made up of a majority of
Singaporeans and Permanent Residents.
In this exercise,
Studio M Hotel plans to recruit more than 80 full time and part
time positions across various departments such as rooming,
finance, engineering and security.
