The Asia Cruise Association (ACA) and China
Cruise & Yacht Industry Association (CCYIA) have signed a
memorandum of understanding that outlines 4 key areas of
collaboration including (1) Joint efforts to promote cruise
culture within Chinese consumers; (2) Facilitation of
regional cruise governance; (3) Joint development of cruise market
in Asia for commercial and professional enhancement; and (4)
Cross participation in both associations’ international and
regional cruise events.
ACA
Chairman, Rama Rebbapragada, said, “ACA is happy to establish an
alliance with CCYIA as both associations see many areas of collaboration that can help propel the development and growth of
cruise industry. ACA, being the largest cruise industry
association in Asia, will like to be at the forefront of cruise
tourism promotion and leading the professional and commercial
development for cruise industry in Asia. Hence, we have started
engaging the various regional cruise industry associations to moot
ideas of collaboration since our incorporation. CCYIA is our very
first alliance partner and we look forward a fruitful partnership
with them.”
Moving forward, the two associations
will be conducting regular dialogue exchange to surface and
address industry issues as well as develop collaborative
initiatives to help drive the growth of the cruise industry in
Asia. It is believed that the MOU signed by both sides is of great
significance to the market development of international cruise
lines in China, the Asian regional cooperation and the process of internationalization of China cruise industry.
Zheng Weihang, Vice-Chairman and Secretary General of
CCYIA, said, “One of CCYIA’s objectives is to
actively promote the cruise industry development and developing
China as a leading cruise destination. Amidst the rapid growth of
cruise industry in China, it is pertinent that we forge alliances
with other cruise industry associations to leverage on each other’s strengths to help expand our network of trade promotion
and development. ACA will be a key alliance partner that CCYIA
will work closely with to share industry knowledge and develop
joint programmes that are mutually beneficial for our members.”
According to the National Tourism Administration
statistics from January to March of 2010, international tourist
arrivals in China reached 2,558,800 of which 1,093,200 tourists
