[HD video below] Direct transport options between Suvarnabhumi
Airport, which is 20 kms south of Bangkok, and Hua Hin, which is
around 180 kms south of Bangkok, are pretty poor. All the hotels
offer expensive limo services that tend to cost as much, or more,
than a return Bangkok - Phuket airfare, and there are no public
transport services available.
If you wanted to take an affordable option such
as a mini-bus service, like many living in Thailand do, then you
would need to head North into the busy traffic of Bangkok to pick
one up from Victory Monument. These mini-bus services depart
regularly and cost just THB 180 per person, per way, and take
around 2-3 hours. Alternatively, an even cheaper option is to head
from the airport to the Southern Bus terminal which is in the
North of Bangkok from where you could take an air-conditioned bus
that will cost around 80 Baht.
It would be great, and would surely increase
tourism to Hua Hin, if travellers arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport
could jump in a mini-bus service as they do at Victory Monument,
pay the THB 180, and head straight to the soft powdery sands of
Hua Hin. But alas, this is not yet an option.
TravelNewsAsia.com recently interviewed the
very eloquent Pattama Yoshimura, General Manager of the recently
opened InterContinental Hua Hin Resort. In the interview on 21
March 2010, we asked about the Suvarnabhumi Airport pickup options
and what the hotel offers. Her reply gave us a lot more than we
had bargained for. Listen to Khun Pattama explain what they are
planning to launch, and how you - if you can afford it - may soon
be able to travel directly from Suvarnabhumi to Hua Hin in just 35
minutes! It may not solve the lack of direct public transport
problem, but it will definitely be the way to arrive in
Hua Hin.
The above video is an excerpt from a longer
interview which we will feature in full soon. More on this new service to come ... More on the
