The Phuket International Academy Mind Centre
(PIAMC) is hosting an exclusive training seminar for professionals
looking to heighten their awareness in cultivating emotional
balance within themselves and passing on the knowledge to a
broader audience.
Running until 24 August 2010, the "Cultivating
Emotional Balance Teachers' Training" course will be taught by
world renowned psychology professor Dr Paul Ekman and Dr B Alan
Wallace (who is also Chairman of PIAMC) in conjunction with the
Santa Barbara Institute for Consciousness Studies.
A team of IT experts will be using video
conferencing software which will allow Dr Ekman to not only give
lectures from his home in California, but to communicate directly
with participants and answer questions each day.
Dr
Ekman's daughter, Eve, who has been involved with his work for
many years, will be in Phuket to act as his on-site teaching
assistant, lead discussion groups, and to answer additional
questions about the training.
Participants who
successfully complete the course to the instructors' satisfaction
will receive a certificate allowing them to teach the Cultivating
Emotional Balance course.
Delegates who have no plans to
teach may also take the class for personal edification.
Training will focus on learning the theories and practices of
psychology regarding emotional balance as taught by Dr Ekman and
the relevant theories and practices of Buddhism, taught by Dr
Wallace, particularly focused on the cultivation of attention,
insight through the practice of mindfulness, and the qualities of
loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity (the
Four Immeasurables).
The format will consist of a
combination of lectures, meditations and discussion. Dr Wallace
will be in residence for the entire training programme. It is
highly recommended that participants have a background in
psychology, social work or education, and/or experience in
meditation, preferably both.
This course comes on the back
of an eight-week Shamatha retreat – also led by
Dr. Wallace – as the PIAMC establishes itself as Asia's premier
centre for meditation, wellness and balance.
The centre is putting together an impressive
array of courses in the coming months and is taking bookings for
its courses now, including another CEBTT session in 2011.
PIAMC features a boutique hotel, which will be home to all
participants, during their stay as accommodation costs are
included in all fees. The natural surroundings of the national
park provide a tranquil setting for morning and evening walks or
runs.
