AirAsia is to launch direct flights from Bangkok to New Delhi and Kolkata from 1 December 2010.

To celebrate the launch, special promotional fares from Bangkok to Kolkata are now available from THB 990 each way while Bangkok-New Delhi starts from THB 1490 per way. These fares are available for booking until 17 October 2010 for travel between 1 December 2010 and 31 August 2011. Terms and conditions apply.

AirAsia will offer daily flights between Bangkok-Kolkata while flights between Bangkok and New Delhi will be available four days a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Each year, a large number of both tourists and investors from India visit Thailand. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s statistics in 2009, over 600,000 people from India entered Thailand and contributed over 16 billion baht to the Thai economy. Meanwhile, statistics for the January-August 2010 period show a positive trend as visitors from India to Thailand have increased by more than 20% when compared to 2009.

“AirAsia is confident that the number of tourists and investors between the two countries will increase, as consumers will now have more travel options, and be able to fly at an affordable price. As the only low-cost carrier that flies between Bangkok and India, we have much to offer, including our brand-new Airbus fleet, low fares, and an internationally-recognized brand,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia.
