Mr. Freddy Sim has been appointed general
manager of the new Rendezvous Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The hotel, which
is due to open in July, 2010, will be the first hotel to open in
Malaysia by parent company Rendezvous Hospitality Group (RHG).
Freddy Sim has over 30 years in the
hospitality industry, having worked in Singapore, China, Thailand
and Indonesia with a number of international hotel brands
including The Mandarin Singapore, Meritus Hotels and Resorts and
Holiday Inn.
Prior to joining RHG, Mr Sim was
Director of Operations for the Turi Beach Resort, Nongsa Point
Marina and Nongsa Village, located in Batam, Indonesia. Mr Sim
also opened the 430-room Meritus Suites in Bangkok and the Meritus
Shantou in China.
Mr Sim holds a Certificate in
Hotel Management from The Ecole Hoteliere Lausanne in Switzerland
and The Singapore Hotel Association Training and Education Centre.
He also participated in the first Cornell-National University of
Singapore Executive Program in Hospitality Management.
“Expansion in
the Asia Pacific region is a key aspect to RHG’s growth strategy.
The Rendezvous Hotel Kuala Lumpur is a very important project to
the company and will require the best talent available,” said Iqbal Jumabhoy,
CEO of RHG. “We know Freddy will be a great asset to the organisation.
His vast experience as a senior hotelier in a range of hotels
across Asia will ensure we successfully open our first Malaysian
hotel.”
The Rendezvous Hotel Kuala Lumpur will comprise
445 rooms including two lavish Executive Suites. The 29-floor
hotel tower is adjoined by a 26-level residential apartment tower
with its own entrance, parking, lobby and health and service
facilities.
The Rendezvous Hotel Kuala Lumpur is
designed to provide the business traveller with all services
required to work effectively and efficiently. One of the key
amenities to support this brand promise is the provision of
internet access at no cost.
RHG’s executive vice
president of operations, Sean Flynn said, “In today’s world,
internet access for the business person is not a luxury, it’s a
necessity. We’ll provide free wireless internet in all the hotel’s
public areas and in the business centre, while every room has
easy-to-use high-speed broadband access. Laptop-sized room safes
are also a standard room amenity. We intend to be the hotel of
choice for the business person.”
