Mainland visitor arrivals to Hong Kong totalled
662,248 during the National Day Golden Week holidays between 1 - 7
October 2010. This is 21% more than the
same period last year.
Visitor arrivals on 1 October alone reached
117,409, a new single-day record for Mainland arrivals. Out of the
total Mainland arrivals, about 70% or 465,606 travelled on the
Individual Visit Scheme, 21% more than the figure last year. The
number of tour visitors also increased by almost 40% to 56,921.
Mr James Tien, Chairman of Hong Kong Tourism
Board (HKTB), said, “We believe the remarkable growth in arrivals
during the National Day Golden Week could be attributed to the
continued robust economy of the Mainland and the appreciation of
Renminbi, which stimulated the desire for outbound travel among
Mainland visitors. We are especially encouraged that under the
joint promotional efforts of the HKTB and the travel trade, the
proportion of Quality and Honest tours out of the total Mainland
tours to Hong Kong increased significantly. The proportion in such
major cities as Beijing and Shanghai even reached 80%, which was
drastically higher than the 10% to 15% in 2009.”
