In an effort to encourage healthy and
environmentally friendly travel options for its visitors, the
Taipei City Government is launching ‘Splendid Taipei’ – a
pioneering cycling tour program set to run in the city from June
11 to the end of 2009.
The Taipei City Government, long an advocate for
environmental protection, is launching the tours in the tourism
hot-spot amidst growing global concerns for environmental issues.
The ‘Splendid Taipei’ cycling tour program
invites travellers to visit Taipei’s popular attractions by bike,
discovering the charming city along scenic trails, and stopping
off to explore exotic local eateries. More importantly, the
program hopes to promote a relaxing and environmentally friendly
way of touring Taipei City.
The major contributor to the ‘Splendid Taipei’
cycling tour program is the YouBike public bicycle rental system,
which was launched in Taipei earlier this year.
Five hundred YouBikes are currently available
for Taipei visitors to hire. Membership cards to rent the bicycles
can be applied for at 11 rental stations in Taipei City.
Since the launch of YouBike in March, rental
numbers have reached 33,000 with the support of Taiwan citizens
and visitors. An average of 600 to 800 people rent the bicycles on
weekdays, and the number rises to between 1,000 and 1,200 on
weekends.
Complementing the ‘Splendid Taipei’ cycling tour
program, China Airlines has launched an exclusive ‘Trendy Getaway’
travel package, as well as air ticket promotion. The travel
package includes roundtrip economy class air fares from Hong Kong, two nights of
accommodation at selected hotels, and complimentary breakfast.
Tickets for two are priced from HK$1,550 per person, while a
seven-day round trip ticket is priced at HK$988. Both promotions
run from June 11 to September 30, 2009.
The ‘Splendid Taipei’ cycling tour programme is
supported and sponsored by China Airlines, Giant, Atunas, Vigor
and Master Hung.
