Finnair traffic in June 2009 was 13.4% and the
number of passengers carried 12.2% below the figures for June
2008. Weak demand reduced the average price per passenger
kilometers more than 18% in the second quarter of 2009.
"The demand in air traffic is still weakening
and Finnair has reduced capacity accordingly," said Finnairs
SVP Public Affairs and Communications Christer Haglund.
"Capacity was slashed by 14.2%, resulting in a passenger load
factor 0.6 percentage points higher than last year, 74%."
Of Finnair's flights, 89% arrived on schedule, which represents an improvement of 7.9 percentage points from last
year. The scheduled passenger traffic punctuality percentage
rose from June last year by 8.2 percentage points to 90.5%.
Finnair traffic altogether decreased by
13.4%, measured in revenue passenger kilometres. Capacity
decreased by 14.2%. Passenger load factor was 0.6 percentage
points higher than year before, 74.0% while the number of passengers
carried decreased by 12.2% to 641,989.
Scheduled traffic decreased by 11.6%, measured in revenue passenger kilometres. Capacity decreased by 13%
and the passenger load factor was 1.1 percentage points higher than
a year before at 71.8%. The number of passengers carried decreased by 9.2%
to 544,823.
Scheduled international traffic,
decreased by 11.7%, measured in revenue passenger kilometres.
Capacity decreased by 12.7%. Passenger load factor was 0.8
percentage points higher than year before, 72.3%. Number of
passengers carried decreased by 10.2% and was 451,966.
European scheduled traffic decreased by 10.3%, measured in
revenue passenger kilometres. Capacity decreased by 9.4%.
Passenger load factor was 0.7 percentage points lower than year
before, 71.8%. The number of passengers carried decreased by 9.2%
to 350,254.
North Atlantic scheduled traffic
increased by 16%, measured in revenue passenger kilometres.
Capacity increased by 18.6%. Passenger load factor was 2
percentage points lower than year before, 85.9%. The number of
passengers carried increased by 15.9% to 17,232.
Asian scheduled traffic decreased by
16.3% while capacity decreased by 18.2%. The passenger
load factor was 1.6 percentage points higher than a year before
at
70.7%, and the number of passengers carried decreased by 17.7% to
84,480.
Domestic scheduled traffic decreased
by 9.1% while capacity decreased
by 18.2%. The passenger load factor was 6 percentage points
higher than a year before at 60.5%. The number of passengers carried
decreased by 3.8% to 92,857.
Leisure traffic decreased by 20.6% and
capacity decreased by 19.8%. The passenger load factor
was 0.9 percentage points lower than a year before at 85.4%.
The number of passengers carried decreased by 25.9% to 97,166.
Cargo traffic decreased by 20.7% in terms
of cargo tonnes carried. The decrease in scheduled traffic was
21.7%. Cargo traffic decreased by 24.0% in Asian traffic,
decreased by 12.8% in European traffic and decreased by 26.2% in North-Atlantic traffic.
Cargo traffic carried on
chartered cargo flights decreased by 15.1%. The cargo load
factor in the Far Eastern traffic was 71.2% and in the North
Atlantic traffic 44.5%.
