Sofitel is staging a massive clean-up campaign as part of “Earth Guest Day”, an initiative developed by parent company Accor which aims at working to improve the environment in communities in which the hotel group operates, as well as to educate children about the importance of “thinking green”.

Accor and Sofitel’s global Earth Guest Day represents the climax of all the sustainable development actions carried out by worldwide employees under the Accor Group. It advocates ecological and energy conservation activities, involving employees and clients to enhance the social awareness and symbolize sustainable development.

In Vietnam, 200 employees of Sofitel Dalat Palace will be part of a 500-man team that will go to Ho Xuan Huong Lake where they clean garbage from the water and the banks of the lake, as well as installing new garbage bins to ensure that the area not only gets clean, but stays clean.

In Siem Riep meanwhile, Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra, employees will install a Tube Well at a local orphanage as well as opening a library. Ongoing in-house education in the form of talks and seminars will educate employees about water treatment processes and how to save water.

Up in Northern China, the Sofitel Silver Plaza Jinan is taking steps to help protect local trees that have been suffering seriously from American white moths, as well as doing a massive clean up of beautiful Jinan Park.

Children for Hope School and employees’ children will be invited to a presentation at the Sofitel Wanda Beijing. Designed as a competition to make it more interactive and fun, the session will include creating their own shopping bags by decorating an environmentally friendly bag using waterproof coloured pens.

In a bid to help clean up Bangkok’s canals, employees and their children will clear up Talingchan Canal on the outskirts of Bangkok and receive educational talks from District Officers about protecting water quality, water animals and nature.

The first “Earth Guest Day” of Accor Group spanned 69 countries and included the participation of 100,000 employees.
