Carlson Hotels Worldwide has been recognised by
Green Globe for its environmental efforts at eight of its Asia
Pacific properties. Focused on areas such as energy efficiency and
minimising green house emissions, Green Globe provides an
environmental management framework for organisations within the
travel and tourism industry to achieve sustainability
accreditation.
The group’s six hotels in China –
Park Plaza Beijing Wangfujing, Radisson Hotel Pudong Century Park,
Radisson Hotel Shanghai Hong Quan, Radisson Hotel Shanghai New
World, Radisson Plaza Xing Guo Hotel Shanghai and The Regent
Beijing achieved bronze certification as well as the Radisson on
Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne in Australia. The 362-room Radisson
Plaza Hotel Sydney, which recently clinched the Sustainable
Operations Award at the prestigious Hotel Investment Conference
Asia Pacific (HICAP) awards, was accredited with silver
certification.
“Environmental sustainability
programmes are part of our commitment to conducting responsible
business, and the Green Globe certification provides recognition
for our adherence to the highest international standards,” said
Jean-Marc Busato, managing director – Asia Pacific, Carlson Hotels
Worldwide. “We are pursuing ambitious plans to
become green globe certified by mid-2010 for all our Asia Pacific
properties including Regent Hotels & Resorts, Radisson Hotels &
Resorts, Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Park Inn hotels.”
On a global scale, Carlson Hotels Worldwide is
focusing on specific sustainable issues such as reducing,
recycling and reusing solid waste, reducing the use of harmful
chemicals, conserving energy and water, and improving indoor air
quality that has immediate impact on the environment and the
communities where its hotels operate.
In addition,
the group is in partnership with The CarbonNeutral Company, a
UK-based carbon offsetting company that supports projects
associated with renewable energy, resource conservation and waste
reduction, for its goldpoints plus loyalty programme. The
programme offers guests the opportunity to redeem points for
community-based carbon reduction projects.
