Tiger Airways is preparing to launch flights between
Melbourne and Sydney Airports. The flights will commence from 3 July
2009 with up to four flights between both destinations daily.
Tiger Airways Australia Managing Director,
Shelley Roberts, said that the new Melbourne – Sydney route has
been long anticipated by travellers and is a result of feedback
from the public, both in Victoria and New South Wales.
“Tiger Airways has always been proud to be
Melbourne’s home-town airline, and now we’re even more thrilled to
be adding this important interstate route to our schedule, which
is great news for visitors and locals alike.
“Melbourne-Sydney is one of the most popular
routes in both Australia and indeed the whole world. With Tiger
Airways new flight route, more people than ever will be able to
travel between the two destinations more often and for the first
time at consistently low fares. This is particularly pleasing at a
time when some other airlines are cutting schedules and in
comparison, Tiger Airways is adding to its network,” Shelley said.
Gregory Hywood, Chief Executive,
Tourism Victoria, said, “Australians spend more tourism
dollars in Melbourne than in any other capital city.
Tiger Airways new Sydney to Melbourne route and low cost
fares, means even more visitors will come to enjoy
everything our great State of Victoria has to offer -
our year round calendar of major events, world class
conference and events facilities and well deserved
reputation as Australia’s leading destination for food
and wine, all position our State as a premier tourism
destination.”
Tickets for Tiger Airways flights
between Melbourne and Sydney are now on sale from A$68 one way.
