The Hong Kong Tourism Board launched a “Hong Kong Welcomes Shenzhen Visitors with
Citywide Promotion” in Shenzhen on Saturday. The 8-month programme
that runs until end 2009 will feature a host of offers and privileges by
local travel trade, packaged by the HKTB under various themes at
different times of the year.
These offers will be promoted and
distributed to Shenzhen residents through such channels as the Mainland
travel trade and media, with a view to grooming the residents’ habit of
making more frequent consumption visits to Hong Kong.
The programme rides on the latest
individual visit arrangements for Shenzhen residents implemented by the
Central Government. Since 1 April, qualified Shenzhen residents can
apply for year-round multiple-entry visas to visit Hong Kong, while
those with no registered households in Guangdong may apply for
individual visit endorsement in Shenzhen at a later date. The programme
also leverages the upcoming Labour Day Golden Week holidays in Mainland
China.
During the first phase of the programme in late April and May,
Shenzhen residents will be offered privilege coupons given out by the
Joint Coalition Against Financial Tsunami. These coupons, which were
extended by more than 30 merchants in Hong Kong, provide retail and
dining discount worth more than HK$2,000.
In addition, to widely
publicise shopping tips among Mainland visitors so that they can have an
even more
enjoyable experience of Hong Kong, the HKTB will distribute “Tips and
Hints on Shopping and Dining Guide” to visitors at those entry points
frequently used by Mainland visitors, such as Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau, on
weekends and public holidays in late April and May. The leaflet provides
useful information on shopping and dining in Hong Kong, as well as
hotlines of Consumer Council, Customs & Excise Department, the Travel
Industry Council (TIC) of Hong Kong and the HKTB.
