Finnair has won a deal with the UK
public sector to be the official airline for flights from London
Heathrow to Osaka, Japan, and flights between Manchester and
Helsinki.
Finnair will fly public sector staff and
officials to the destinations until 2011 with an option of adding
an additional year to the agreement.
This is the first time Finnair has been awarded
a deal with the UK government.
"This is a significant win for Finnair's Asian
strategy," said Tomi Hnninen, who heads Finnair's sales in the
UK.
"The deciding factors were significant
incremental savings of 24% on air travel for government
departments and the wider UK public sector. Finnair also flies a
modern, environmentally friendly aircraft fleet and changes of
flights take place at the efficient Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
Finnair offers one of the fastest routes from the UK to Asia. For
example, our Osaka connection is the quickest in comparison with
competitor airlines," Hnninen added.
