Singapore Airlines has appointed Dr Helmut Panke
to its Board as an independent, non-executive director, with
effect from 1 September 2009.
Dr Panke, a trained nuclear engineer with a PhD
in Physics from the University of Munich, was with BMW AG from
1982 to 2006.
During this time he served in a number of senior positions, including Executive Chairman of the Board of Management
from May 2002 to August 2006.
Among other positions held, from
1993 to 1996 he served as Chairman and CEO of BMW (US) Holding Corp, responsible for the car makers North American activities.
Dr Panke is currently serving on the board of Microsoft
Corporation, where he is the first non-American director.
He also
serves on the board of directors of UBS AG, Switzerland, and the
supervisory board of Bayer AG.
Two Directors, Mr Chia Pei-Yuan
and Sir Brian Pitman, retired from the Board after the last Annual General Meeting on 31 July.
