Airports Council International (ACI) Asia Pacific has appointed Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad as Acting President of ACI Asia Pacific Region with effective from 1 January 2010.

The appointment arose as a result of the current President of ACI Asia Pacific, Mr. Max Moore-Wilton, Chairman of Sydney Airport being elected to be the Chairman of ACI World for a two-year term with effective from 1 January 2010, at the 19th ACI World Annual General Assembly held on November 3, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In accepting the chairmanship of the ACI World, Mr. Moore-Wilton said, “I am very proud and honored to be elected as the new Chair of ACI. Since 2006, I have been actively involved in the work of ACI as the President of the ACI Asia Pacific region. ACI has a unique role in the aviation industry and we act as the voice of the worlds airports, representing over 1650 airports from all over the world. I am confident that ACI will continue to grow and evolve itself into an organization that advances the collective interest of the world’s airports as well as theirs users. I look forward to working closely with all industry colleagues in this new position.”

Under the leadership of the President and the Regional Board, the Regional Office has launched a number of new services and initiatives including the ACI Asia Pacific Young Executive Award in 2009 which was a program aiming to honor young executives in the region. Furthermore, the ACI Asia Pacific region has launched an official magazine “Asia-Pacific Airports”, aiming to provide a dedicated platform for members to build up their profile through the magazine. On policy issues, two regional committees on safety and security matters were established and two liaison groups on IT and environment were recently established in order to better facilitate our members in terms of technical and policy matters.

Mrs. Maggie Kwok, Regional Director of ACI Asia Pacific said, “On behalf of the ACI Asia Pacific, I would like to thank Mr. Max Moore-Wilton, our outgoing President for his dedication, time and leadership that he has rendered to the ACI Asia Pacific Regional Board and to the Regional Office. Mr. Moore-Wilton’s leadership was instrumental to the merger of ACI Asia and ACI Pacific regions in May 2006 and he has been serving as the President of the Asia Pacific Region since then. Under the great support by the President and our Board, the Regional Office has launched many new services and initiatives for our members. All these services would not be possible without the strong support and guidance by the President and our Board.”

Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid, Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad added, “I am delighted and honored to be the President of ACI Asia Pacific Region. I would like to thank the ACI Asia Pacific Executive Committee Members for their support and the nomination.
