James Kostecky has been appointed General Manager
of the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai.
Kostecky came to the hospitality industry by way of the
medical field. After wrapping up pre-med at the University of
Notre Dame he leaned towards a career in reconstructive surgery
but realized that 15 years of medical school would impede his
wanderlust. And so at his sister’s encouragement, he changed his
career path and enrolled in hotel studies at Cornell University.
The switch was not really that
extreme. “Medicine and hotels are similarly cerebral,”
said Kostecky, who joined Four
Seasons in 2002. “At heart, both are about helping people, and
everyday is something different.”
Born and raised in Harrisburg,
Pennsylvania, Kostecky spent his formative years working in
restaurants and delighting in slide shows from his parents’ travel
through Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean.
Hotel work
has kept him moving too, to posts in Africa and across the U.S.,
as well as a turn as Hotel Manager of Four Seasons Hotel London
and most recently as General Manager in The Bahamas.
