Contiki Holidays, a leader in holidays designed
especially for 18 to 35 year-olds, has partnered with Netball Singapore
to launch beach netball festival. The Contiki Beach Netball Festival
will be held on Palawan Beach, Sentosa in Singapore on Sunday 8 March
2009 between 10am to 5.30pm.
Miss Jessica Tan, Member of Parliament for East
Coast GRC, and the World Netball Championships 2011 Singapore
Chairman, also an avid Netball fan, will be the Guest-of-honour
for the event.
Breaking the traditional Netball mould with the
introduction of 50-foot by 50-foot sand courts, teams not only
have to adapt to the unfamiliar surface but also tackle the fast
pace that a four-on-four game of Netball brings.
In sync with Contiki’s trademark tours for only
18 to 35 year-olds, Netball Singapore will be organising three
categories for the one-day event:
• Women Under 23 – JC and
Tertiary Institutions Only • Women Open – Ages 18 to 35 Only
• Mixed Open – Ages 18 to 35 Only
For each category, teams will not only be
playing for pride but for over Sin$10,000 in cash and prizes. The
top team from each category will walk away with Sin$1,000 in cash
and Sin$1,800 in Contiki travel vouchers. Cash prizes of Sin$500 and
Sin$300 will be awarded for the runners up and third placing for
each of the categories respectively.
Entry costs Sin$60 for a team of six and upon
successful registration, each team will receive a top to be
worn on the day.
For the Contiki Beach Netball Festival, street
Netball rules will be used. This means games will be played on
half-courts with four per team. No position bibs will be used
while only two members from each team are allowed in the circle at
any time. The matches will be in round robin format with the top
two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage on the
way to the finals. Each team will have 10 minutes to outscore
their opponents in this event. The closing date for entries is 28 February 2009.
Nicholas Lim, regional director, Contiki
Holidays said, “I’m pleased to partner with Netball Singapore in a
bid to introduce the sport to 18 to 35 year-olds here in
Singapore. As an escorted holiday expert, Contiki has long offered
young travellers exciting experiences and now we feel we can do
the same through this sport.”
There will also be a string of fringe activities
happening that day. Admission is free and the public are welcome to watch the games
and join in the fun.
