AirAsia’s first flight between Kuala Lumpur and London
took off on Wednesday from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal in KL at 9.00
am.
A send-off celebration was held at the
terminal to mark the historic voyage for AirAsia and its long haul
affiliate AirAsia X that operates the sector.
Joining AirAsia X Chairman Dato’ Seri Kalimullah
Masheerul Hassan and CEO Azran Osman-Rani on the historic
inaugural flight were the Secretary General of the Association of
South East Asian Nations (Asean) HE Dr Surin Pitsuwan and the
British High Commissioner to Malaysia HE Boyd McCleary.
The Airbus A340-300 flight flew off with a full
load 286 guests onboard, including 30 in what the airline calls XL
seats.
AirAsia’s first flight to London
opened for sale in November 2008 with limited-time promotional seats
available from RM499++ / GBP99++ per way.
