Former
Pakistan captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, who hammered 25 test centuries in a brilliant 15-year career, has confirmed he will take part in
this year’s Hong Kong Cricket Sixes at
Kowloon Cricket Club on November 8-9.
Inzamam, 38, will appear alongside Australian great Damien Martyn and ex-New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming in what is shaping up as
a powerful All-Stars team. The All-Stars will be a major attraction at the tournament, which is fully sanctioned by the International Cricket Council.
“I'm delighted to be taking part in the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes and I'm looking forward to what promises to be a great weekend,” said
Inzamam. “As far as cricketers are concerned, the Hong Kong event is without doubt the premier sixes tournament in world cricket and the one we all
want to be involved in.”
One of the giants of world cricket, Inzamam played 120 tests for Pakistan between 1992 and 2007, including 31 as captain.
One of the highlights of his career came in 2002 when he scored a masterful 329 against New Zealand in Lahore.
He is also third on the all-time list of highest run scorers in one day internationals, having amassed 11,739 runs from 350 innings.
“It is another great achievement for the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes to have a player of Inzamam’s stature and talent taking part,” said
tournament director Mark Burns. “His mixture of raw power and delicate touch make him ideally suited to the sixes format and we are sure he will be a huge hit with the Hong
Kong fans.”
The All-Stars will join nine representative international teams in the tournament – Australia, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, India, Sri
Lanka, South Africa, Bangladesh and hosts Hong Kong.
First held in 1992, the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is the sport's longest-running, best-established and most high-profile sixes tournament.
Players who have taken part in the event over the past 16 years include Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Steve and Mark Waugh, Viv Richards,
Andrew Flintoff, Adam Gilchrist and Wasim Akram.
