Following the success of The Excelsior, Hong Kong’s 35th Anniversary “Fat Choy” Charity Walk held in February, which raised
HK$250,000 in aid of MINDSET (the in-house registered charity of Jardine
Matheson), the hotel has launched a new celebratory event to further commemorate its 35 years as a leading light in Hong Kong.
Until the end of 2008, the photo exhibition “The Excelsior Then & Now” will showcase the hotel’s 35 years of colourful history with a display open to the public in the hotel lobby and in EXpresso coffee
bar.
“The Excelsior Then & Now” depicts the hotel’s history through a fascinating collection of rare archive images, taking guests on a journey
through time from the 1970s on to the present day. Indeed, the very location of The Excelsior, Hong Kong is of historical note, for
the hotel was built on a highly significant site – the first plot of land auctioned by the British government after Hong Kong’s establishment
as a colony in 1841.
Since its opening in February 1973, the hotel has served several million guests and played host to thousands of memorable events and
celebrations, making it one of Hong Kong’s most endearing icons.
Amanda Hyndman, General Manager of The Excelsior, Hong Kong
said, “The Excelsior is recognised as a landmark property that has been
fundamental to the evolution of Causeway Bay as quite simply the most vibrant place in Hong Kong and we hope that this exhibition will
bring back wonderful memories to all our guests and colleagues who have enjoyed The Excelsior over the past 35 years.”
Situated in the heart of Causeway Bay, the shopping centre of Hong Kong Island, The Excelsior is only a five-minute drive to the city’s
central business district and forty minutes by MTR to Hong Kong International Airport. The hotel features 886 rooms and suites, five
exclusive Executive Floors with a private lounge, fully-equipped business centre, extensive fitness centre and tennis courts and
state-of-the-art meeting and banquet facilities
