AirAsia
is to launch flights between Kota Kinabalu and Labuan with fares from as low as
RM9. The new route is part of the airline’s strategy to provide more air connectivity to the ‘Land Below The Wind’ and to complement Sabah as
the gateway for trade, investment and tourism in the region, specifically under the Sabah Development Corridor.
The
new daily flight which will commence on 26 September 2008 is beneficial to foreign
visitors as they would have an added entry point from Labuan to get into Kota Kinabalu, the main gateway to Sabah.
Dato’ Sri Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia Berhad, said, “The air linkage provided by AirAsia has some way assisted to open various
economic and business opportunities since we launched the flight in Sabah 6 years ago. We are proud to see some significant changes within
the economic and social development in Sabah. Thus the inclusion of this new route and the added frequency is part of our way to celebrate
Malaysia’s 51 years of independence, promote national integration and our unremitting commitment to develop Sabah and enable more
Malaysians to fly.”
AirAsia is also adding frequency
between Kota Kinabalu - Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu – Tawau.
