Deputy Mayor of Rotorua Trevor Maxwell has been appointed to the newly created position of Kaupapa Māori Director at Tourism New Zealand.
As a respected and passionate advocate for Māori culture and the broader Māori community, Mr Maxwell will provide advice and assistance to
Tourism New Zealand on Māori issues and its commitment to the Māori tourism sector.
Mr Maxwell has worked with Tourism New Zealand on a number of international events in the past, including the Māori Arts Meets America event
in San Francisco in 2005 and the opening of the Americas Cup in Valencia in 2007.
As one of his first responsibilities in this new role, Mr Maxwell will travel with Tourism New Zealand to London to participate in the opening of the
inflatable Rugby Ball Venue at Potters Fields Park on 25 November.
Born and raised in Rotorua, Mr Maxwell is in his second term as Deputy Mayor of Rotorua and became a Member of the New Zealand Order of
Merit for his long-standing services to Māori culture, the arts and local government affairs in
2002.
