Boryspil International Airport, Ukraine’s largest airport, has selected SITA’s airport technology to support its goal of processing 18 million
passengers by 2020, up from around seven million today.
Increased demand has led to the introduction of an industry open platform, SITA AirportConnect, for the 42 international and 10 domestic airlines
using the airport thus ensuring faster check-in and easier adoption of self-service technology. The airport will experience 20% growth this year
when it is expected to handle 6.7 million passengers.
The deal also includes SITA AirportHub, a shared wide area network (WAN) infrastructure for the entire Boryspil airport, providing airlines and
other airport tenants with high-resiliency and cost-effective in-airport connectivity, replacing individual leased lines and hardware equipment.
Boris
Shakhsuvarov, Director General, Boryspil International Airport, said, “SITA has worked with us successfully over the last seven years and
is the perfect partner as we enter this new phase in our development. AirportConnect allows shared airline use of over 150 agent check-in desks
which makes for a more efficient airport for both airlines and passengers alike.
“SITA has also helped us introduce 2D barcode technology at the airport to facilitate fast and convenient check-in, ensuring that we are prepared
for the IATA deadline of 2010 for the 100% adoption of bar coded boarding passes.”
Ilya Gutlin, SITA Regional Vice President for Eastern and Central Europe,
added, “Airport development in Eastern Europe is progressing quickly
with 11.2% passenger growth; this is higher than any other part of Europe.
“By providing an industry-open platform, SITA AirportConnect ensures both airports and airlines can cater for the huge rates of growth expected
in this decade; it facilitates self-service and other technologies that support airline needs in an efficient and profitable manner.”
SITA AirportConnect went into operation for the 52 airlines at Boryspil International
earlier this month; the airport joins 45 others in Eastern
Europe who have selected SITA common-use solutions to meet their growing needs for the future.
Boryspil is the latest addition to the list of more than 100 airports in 51 countries which have the mission-critical IP platform SITA Airport Hub in
place. These include Domodedovo, Pulkovo, Sheremetyevo-3 terminal, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Vienna, Prague, Sydney and
Beijing.
