In May 2008, Singapore welcomed 828,000 visitors, representing a growth of 0.8% as compared to the same month a year ago. This is a
new record for visitor arrivals for the month of May. Visitor days were estimated to reach 3.5 million days, an increase of 12.1% in
comparison with May 2007.
Indonesia (136,000), India (103,000), P.R. China (86,000), Australia (66,000) and Malaysia (52,000) were Singapores top five
visitor-generating markets. These markets accounted for 53% of total visitor arrivals for the month.
Singapore gazetted hotels were estimated to reap
Sin$182 million in room revenue, representing a growth of 19.3% over May 2007.
The Average Room Rate (ARR) in May 2008 was estimated at
Sin$249, representing an healthy increase of 28.2% over May 2007. The Average
Occupancy Rate (AOR) for hotels was estimated to reach 82% in May 2008, posting a 3.5 percentage point decrease over May 2007.
Revenue Per Available Room (Revpar) grew by 23% to reach Sin$205 in May 2008.
