The President of France, Mr Nicolas
Sarkozy, recently announced a reshuffle of the cabinet, which saw Mr Hervé Novelli
appointed as the Secretary of State for Trade, Crafts, SMEs/SMIs, Tourism and
Services.
Mr
Novelli serves under Ms Christine Lagarde, Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment. He
was previously Secretary of State for Businesses and Foreign Trade.
Hervé Novelli, 59 years old, was the Chairman and Managing Director of a prosthesis-maker company
based in Richelieu, in the Indre-et-Loire district for more than 25 years.
He has been the mayor of this town since March 2008.
From 1993 to 1997, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for the
Indre-et-Loire district and he continued to promote the interests of the business community. In 1993 he was charged with an
interministerial mission to find ways to promote the creation of jobs in
SMEs.
He has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1999 and was reelected in June 2007 when
the President offered him a ministerial position.
