Singapore-based or registered companies
will soon have the opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent to the
millions of visitors expected at the World Expo Shanghai 2010. The Singapore
Tourism Board (STB) is looking for a multi-disciplinary team that possesses
excellent track records to develop an exciting and innovative design for the
Singapore Pavilion at the World Expo Shanghai 2010, a 150-year old global
exposition which aims to promote the worldwide exchange of ideas and the
development of world economy, culture, science and technology.
With the working theme "City of Possibilities, Transforming Lives
机遇之都,成
就人生”, the 3,000 square meter Singapore Pavilion will showcase
Singapore’s achievements in sustainable development, its continuous drive to reinvent itself,
and other lesser known aspects of Singapore beyond its economic success.
The World Expo will be held in Shanghai from 1 May to 31 October 2010 and is
expected to attract around 70 million visitors. Since 1986, Singapore has been participating in World Expos in Vancouver, Brisbane, Seville, Hanover and most
recently in Aichi. The Shanghai Expo in 2010 would see the largest-scale
participation by Singapore yet in any Expo.
STB is calling for interested parties to submit the credentials of the multidisciplinary
teams for consideration. Teams which possess suitable track records, credentials and relevant experience and are able to showcase a high
quality of relevant past projects will be selected to participate in the tender
submission process. The team should also comprise experts at various
design related fields including but not limited to architecture, advertising, branding,
and digital media, environmental design and content programming.
“We are very much looking forward to being a part of the World Expo Shanghai
2010 where we will have opportunities to share with international participants,
our experience in ensuring sustainable development and learning from other
nations. The World Expo Shanghai 2010 is an important platform for cross
nation
dialogues to address the challenge of building sustainable cities and given
its significance, we are looking to partner with companies that would be able to
translate Singapore’s achievements in sustainable development into a powerful
and Uniquely Singapore experience for the visitors to the Singapore Pavilion. The
pavilion will be built to engage and inspire, providing visitors with the
ultimate in sensory experience, hence the need for us to partner a strong multi-disciplinary
team of creative talents,” said Mr. Ken Low, Assistant Chief Executive, Brand &
Communications, STB.
The closing date for the submission of credentials is 8 October 2008.
To ensure that Singaporeans are kept abreast of the nation’s involvement in
World Expo Shanghai 2010, the www.singaporeatworldexpo.com.sg
portal has been set up. An online competition which runs until 31 December 2008 is hosted on the website to gather ideas to help enhance
the Singapore Pavilion. Singaporeans and anyone who has travelled to, studied,
worked or stayed in Singapore can participate. Entries will be judged on their
creativity as well as ability to capture the essence of Singapore within the
context of the working theme for the Singapore Pavilion, and the five subthemes
of World Expo Shanghai 2010. Winners stand to win attractive cash prizes as well as a pair of return air tickets from Singapore to Shanghai or
viceversa, visitor passes to attend the World Expo Shanghai 2010 and hotel
accommodation.
