The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration and the European Hotel Managers Association have selected three 2008 scholarship
winners to attend the Cornell Professional Development Program (PDP) for hospitality managers in Brussels this July.
Award recipients for 2008 are Felix Dietrich, Hotel Waldhaus, Switzerland; Thomas Noll, Grand Hotel Europe, St. Petersburg, Russia; and
Thomas Swieca, Radisson SAS Media Harbour, Duesseldorf, Germany.
Winners of the three scholarships were chosen by the European Hotel Managers Association (EHMA) executive committee from the
association's new member acceptances. The scholarships allow each winner to participate in one of Cornell’s PDP courses being offered in
Brussels this July. The awards were offered as a way for Cornell to support a strong hotel industry organization as well as to support
life-long learning for hotel professionals.
“PDP programs are designed and developed to help hotel executives to stay on top of leading industry trends and to gain new in-depth
learning of specific topics,” said Cornell’s Tom Kline, director of Executive Education. “By offering these scholarships we are not only
supporting EHMA, but we are also supporting the growth of individuals who are leading this industry.”
Cornell PDP will commence in Brussels, Belgium, for the seventh straight year. The internationally acclaimed program will once again
provide an opportunity for over 150 hotel professionals to sharpen their knowledge of key industry-specific management practices in an
interactive learning environment. Participants learn from Cornell faculty members who have vast experience predicting, formulating, and
testing strategies for effective management. Past participants in the Cornell PDP program have found the learning to be immediately
applicable and the return on investment to be fast and substantial. In addition to receiving in-depth knowledge on
industry-specific topics, participants benefit from building friendships with an internationally diverse assembly of industry colleagues.
Barbara Valzania, secretary general of the European Hotel Managers Association in Rome,
said, “It is our aim to constantly improve the
professional value and level of our meetings. Cornell’s sponsorship has provided an excellent way for us to do this.”
