Japan Airlines
is to start code sharing on 6 additional routes operated by China Eastern Airlines (MU) between China and Japan.
The new code share agreement will enable JAL to place its
JL designator on China Eastern Airlines' flights operating between Shanghai
- Kagoshima, Shanghai - Matsuyama, Shanghai- Niigata, Shanghai - Okinawa
(Naha) Qingdao - Fukuoka, and Qingdao - Nagoya (Chubu).
With this code share expansion, JAL's Japan-China network will serve 13 cities in China on 36 routes with a total of 318 flights per week. Of
these flights JAL operates some 180 flights per week to 10 airports in China.
JAL and China Eastern have been code share partners since September 2002. The new agreement increases to 15 the number of routes on
which the airlines code share.
Furthermore, Japan Airlines
inaugurated a reciprocal frequent flyer program agreement with China Eastern Airlines, on February 1,
2008. Members of JAL's frequent flyer program, JAL Mileage Bank, can now accumulate mileage when traveling on China Eastern
Airlines flights and redeem award tickets on China Eastern Airlines flights.
