Mr. John Rice has been appointed general manager of
the China World Hotel, Beijing. An Australian national, Mr. Rice has been with Shangri-La
Hotels and Resorts for 15 years, and this is his second Beijing appointment, having previously worked in the food and beverage division at
the Shangri La Hotel, Beijing.
Prior to joining China World Hotel, Beijing, Mr. Rice was general manager of the 950 room Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai, a post he held since
June 2006. Under his tenure, Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai received numerous awards for outstanding service, winning acclaim in the global
travel industry’s foremost publications, such as Conde Nast Traveller and Travel + Leisure.
Mr. Rice’s Shangri-La portfolio also includes Edsa Shangri-La, Manila in the Philippines; Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa, Yanuca, Fiji Islands;
Fiji Mocambo Hotel in Fiji; and Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore.
