SilkAir has selected International Aero Engines (IAE) V2500 engines to power its 20 new Airbus A320 family aircraft, which were ordered in
December 2006. The new orders - 11 firm and nine on option - are scheduled for delivery between 2009 and 2013.
All engines will be of the SelectOne build standard and will be backed by an aftermarket support agreement.
SilkAirs selection of V2500 engines for its new fleet builds on its longstanding partnership with
IAE.
SilkAir currently operates 400 flights weekly to 29 destinations in Asia with a fleet of 14 V2500-powered Airbus A320 family aircraft, with one
new aircraft scheduled for delivery this August 2008. The existing fleet will be upgraded with the new improved SelectOne engines
progressively.
IAE is a multinational aero engine consortium whose shareholders comprise of Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Japanese Aero Engines
Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.
