Finnair
is to open a luxurious Spa and Wellness centre in autumn 2009 adjacent to its new via.Helsinki Lounge in the Helsinki Airport
terminal extension. The lounge and spa will offer unique wellness services to Finnair's growing number of
passengers.
Finnair has been systematically increasing the number of Asian destinations it offers via Helsinki since the turn of the millennium.
The number of the airline's Asian frequencies has increased over six-fold in eight years. Finnair expects to carry as many as 1.3 million
passengers on its flights between Europe and Asia this year.
"The new via.Helsinki Lounge and Spa & Wellness centre are specifically designed to serve our customers who change Finnair flights at
Helsinki Airport. We want to offer this continuously increasing passenger segment unique, luxurious and refreshing lounge and spa
services," said Finnair VP for Customer Concepts and Marketing Paavo
Virkkunen.
The Finnair lounge and spa will be constructed in the Helsinki Airport Non-Schengen Terminal extension, which will be completed in
autumn 2009.
The space covers an area of 1,580 square metres. The lounge and spa will be open to Finnair and oneworld top three tier customers and
business class passengers as well as at a charge to all other customers.
"The Spa & Wellness centre offer Finnair customers quality spa and wellness services. The facilities include a sauna with a view of the
runway, a mineral water bath, cold water baths as well as rooms for different wellness-treatments,"
explained Esa Saarinen, in charge of the
design of the spa.
The via.Helsinki Lounge services include a snack bar with drinks as well as restaurant-style meal services. Working is facilitated by a wlan
network, work spaces with computers as well as a space which can be used as meeting room. The lounge also has facilities for socializing
and relaxing as well as a rotating exhibitions space.
