The Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung (Institute for Tourism and Development)
is now accepting applications for the international competitions “TO DO! Contest on Socially Responsible Tourism” (deadline August 31st, 2008) and the “TOURA D'OR Film Contest for
Sustainable Tourism” (deadline September 30th, 2008).
Since 1995 the TO DO! is awarded to tourism-related projects which ensure the involvement of the different interests and requirements of the
local people through participation. The biannual TOURA D'OR contest first took place in 1990. The TOURA D’OR is awarded to professional film
productions which are committed to making tourism socially responsible, environmentally compatible and sustainable.
The focus of the independent Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung (Institute for Tourism and Development) is on development-related
information and education for the tourism sector. The institute edits publications, holds training seminars for tour
guides, is active in tourism research and consulting and organises international contests that promote sustainability in tourism.
“ITB Berlin is very much aware of the responsibilities that the tourism sector bears in respect to society as a whole and for this reason we
support the Studienkreis für Tourismus und Entwicklung,” said David Ruetz, Senior Manager of ITB Berlin. “As the leading trade show for the
tourism industry, ITB Berlin sees itself as a link between research and science on one hand and companies, markets and society on the other.
ITB uses this key position in order to actively support tourism research and to further the dialogue with companies that strive to make their
products and services economically, socially and ecologically responsible.”
The awards ceremony will take place during ITB Berlin 2009.
