Lang
Lang, the contemporary maestro, Grammy nominee and most recently Olympic torch bearer and
specially selected performer in one of the first opening scenes of the Beijing Olympics
Opening Ceremony, sat recently for Madame Tussauds sculptors in Frankfurt, where he helped them
with body measurements and color matching his eyes, teeth and hair to ensure
an accurate wax likeness.
“Lang Lang is not only the embodiment of classical music, he is a modern Chinese hero who
serves as an inspiration to music aficionados and students around the world,” said Mr. Bret
Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai. “As a Grammy
nominee at the age of just 25 for Best Instrumental Soloist and a resident of Hong Kong, we
are delighted to welcome this iconic Chinese personality to the star-studded lineup at
Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.”
Exuding passion and excitement about his wax figure, Lang Lang charmed Madame
Tussauds sculptors during his sitting striking various poses before deciding on the perfect
one from which to be portrayed. Lang Lang wore a black patterned suit, striped black shirt,
jeans and his special edition Adidas shoes, bucking the traditional image of the classical
pianist in a bow-tie and tail coat.
“This is a tremendous honour for me as it provides
a valuable opportunity to promote classical music at this world famous attraction. After
performing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony to billions of viewers, I am excited and looking
forward to the opportunity to further share my music with guests at Madame Tussauds Hong
Kong,” said Lang Lang.
Lang Lang’s recent release of his music album “The Best & Rarities” by Universal Music, is
also a special tribute to celebrating the Beijing Games. Lang Lang’s wax figure will be situated in Hong Kong Glamour and will be unveiled in late
August.
