Prominent architectural firm Steelman Partners
has broken ground on its latest project in Asia – Haitang Bay 5-Star Resort Hotel. Situated in the southern city of Sanya on the tropical Hainan Island, this is one of a number of major projects that
Steelman Partners has been contracted to design in Asia.
Both the conceptual and schematic design of this extensive luxury resort project, developed by Sanya GaoSheng Investment Company
Limited, has been devised by Steelman Partners.
The resort will comprise two main hotel buildings, totaling 700 rooms, covering a 113,500 square meter area, which is to be constructed
in two phases.
Phase 1 of the resort, which will consist of a 23 floor hotel building, luxury spa, fitness centre and private villas, is expected to open in
March 2011. Phase 2 will include the second hotel building as well as a retail and bar street.
Once complete this luxury hotel will offer
travellers ocean view hotel guestrooms, grand ballrooms, convention centers,
international restaurants, recreational pools and even a wedding chapel. Surrounding the two main hotel structures the green, lush
landscape will be preserved, into which modern private villas will be merged to maintain a sense of free flowing natural beauty.
Haitang Bay Resort Hotel is one of a number of hotel projects in an extensive development of the region, involving some of the most
respected hospitality brands in the world. The resort will take an innovative appearance as the structures are designed to resemble a
series of flowers rising seamlessly from the ocean in a simple, yet elegant arc. This effect will be achieved through the design of the
buildings in an attempt to achieve a sense of motion towards climax. Phase 2 of the resort will be lower, gradually increasing in height in
an arch towards Phase 1 creating a feeling of continuous movement, which culminates with the ‘anchor’ at 96
meters high.
“With the design of this project we really wanted to do justice to the development that’s happening in Sanya. This is a really significant
period for the region and we wanted to mirror the buzzing excitement of the area, and reflect this is the design of the structures, while
also keeping it consistent with the natural beauty of the area,” said Paul
Steelman, Founder and CEO of the architectural firm.
