Etihad
Airways and Amadeus IT Group have launched Amadeus Gulf, a joint venture company, to provide a global distribution system for
travel companies and travel agents in the UAE, Bahrain and Oman.
The Amadeus Reservations System will offer travel agents in these markets access to a database of Etihad’s full range of air fares. In
addition to accessing data on Etihad, Amadeus Gulf will offer travel agencies a wealth of information on more than 740 other airlines,
nearly 80,000 hotels, 17 cruise lines, 22 car rental companies, 190 tour operators and 87 travel insurance companies across the world.
James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ chief executive,
said, “The launch of Amadeus Gulf signals Etihad’s growing ambitions in the travel
industry and ability to implement technology that will dramatically simplify the day-to-day business of travel companies and agents, and
give a much wider choice of travel options for our customers.”
Etihad has the majority 51% shareholding in Amadeus Gulf, with three members on the board, including the chairman, Wayne
Pearce, the airline’s executive vice president strategy and planning.
