To coincide with the unveiling of Johnny Depp’s
wax likeness at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong in late September, the attraction is launching a Johnny Depp
local look-alike competition in search of the ultimate Depp double in Hong
Kong.
From September 15 to 19,
Depp look-alikes can enter the competition online via the Madame Tussauds
Hong Kong website (madame-tussauds.com.hk)
with the submission of two photos –
one full-length shot dressed and made up to resemble Johnny Depp – the
other a regular head and shoulders shot of the entrant.
Five finalists will be selected from the
online entries, to be announced on September 22, with the hopefuls competing for the best look-alike title
in person at the unveiling of Depp’s wax figure on September 26.
Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong and Shanghai said
the competition is a great chance for the people of Hong Kong to get creative.
“Johnny Depp is quite an easy celebrity to mimic as he has many trademark looks,”
said Mr Pidgeon. “Entrants can choose to copy one of his signature, sophisticated red-carpet looks or
go all out and dress up as one of Depp’s movie characters such as Jack Sparrow from
the Pirates trilogy, Edward Scissorhands, or the more recent Sweeney Todd. Either
way, it’s going to be lots of fun.”
Aside from the best look-alike title, the grand prize on offer for the best Depp double is
a one night accommodation in a Deluxe Room of Renaissance Kowloon Hotel with a
buffet breakfast for two.
Originally opened in August 2000, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is the first
permanent Madame Tussauds in Asia and is one of eight Madame Tussauds that are
located in London, New York, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Shanghai, Washington D.C.
and Berlin.
