MSC Cruises, the renowned Italian-owned cruise company,
recently launched its latest mega-ship, MSC Poesia, in an elaborate and colourful ceremony that truly reflected the company’s Italian roots.
MSC Poesia, the most luxurious and lavishly fitted-out cruise liner to date in the MSC fleet, was christened in Dover, England in the
presence of MSC Cruises’ “Godmother,” the legendary actress, Sophia Loren to mark the first ever launch of an MSC Cruises ship outside
of Italy.
The launch celebrations began with a colourful Gala Evening and Ms. Loren cut the ribbon to officially launch the luxury vessel in the
presence of The Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
At 93,300 tonnes and 1,275 cabins with double occupancy for 2,550 passengers, MSC Poesia has a
blend of cutting edge technology, elegant surroundings, exciting entertainment venues and tantalising dining opportunities. MSC Poesia will be a sister ship to
the popular MSC Orchestra and MSC Musica (launched in 2007 and 2006 respectively). She
is the ninth ship in the MSC Cruises fleet, which has rapid fleet expansion in the last three years.
On
board, there are 4 restaurants: Le Fontane, Il Palladio, La Cafeteria Villa Pompeiana and l’Obelisco (à la carte restaurant), where guests can
indulge in the tastiest Mediterranean and international dishes, prepared by the chefs. There will be 10 Bars including two open air ones
(Mojito Bar and Piraña Bar). The ample Foscolo deck, la Cafeteria Villa Pompeiana and the two pool areas (Coral Bay and Cayo
Levantado) will offer more space and comfort for the guests with panoramic views. There will also be a Kaito Sushi Bar, similar to the one onboard MSC
Musica, offering Japanese ambience, a zen garden and typical art pieces.
