AirAsia
is increasing its capacity between Kuala Lumpur
and Yogyakarta in Indonesia by launching direct daily flights from 15 April 2008.
The low-cost carrier currently serves the route with
four flights per week on AirAsia’s new 180-seater Airbus A320.
Yogyakarta is AirAsia’s 13th entry into Indonesia alongside with other cities
such as Bali, Balikpapan, Banda Aceh, Bandung, Batam, Jakarta, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Pekan Baru, Solo and Surabaya.
The airline carried over 3.8 million guests between April 2004 and February
2008 to Indonesia.
Dato’ Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia Berhad said, “The soaring load factor has allowed AirAsia to operate daily flights to Yogyakarta and guests may start booking online for our daily flights from 13th March,
2008 ............ We have been promoting Yogyakarta heavily to Malaysians and across the region and have launched several major regional marketing
campaigns among others include ‘Free Seats Campaign’ and ‘AirAsia Big Sale’. These campaigns which among others highlighted the city
of Yogyakarta were advertised in more than 10 countries and we are certain that Yogya will definitely leverage from the huge exposure
gained from these initiatives. AirAsia have also incorporated Yogyakarta in other forms of our communication materials to create better
awareness locally and abroad. The huge similarities between Indonesian and Malaysian cultures, climate,
and food have also enabled us to foster stronger ties between our friends and families from both countries.”
H.R.H Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, Governor of Yogyakarta Special Province
added, “We are indeed honored that AirAsia has
chosen our city which is synonym with the tagline ‘cradle of the Javanese culture’ for its latest service. This rapid expansion in Indonesia is
also timely to coincide with ‘Visit Indonesia Year 2008’ ............
Yogya has recorded the second highest of inbound tourist arrivals after Bali. With our outstanding
historical and cultural heritage and renowned for being the centre of classical Javanese fine art and
culture, Yogyakarta is also known as one of Indonesia’s most important
centres for higher education. On behalf of the People of Yogyakarta Special Province, the arrival of AirAsia is a cause for
celebration as we continue to cheer a higher load factor for both ways in the future.”
concluded H.R.H Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.
