Renowned Hong Kong hotelier Rudolf Greiner, President of the Hotels Division of Sun Hung Kai Properties
(SHKP), has confirmed he is to retire from the company in May 2008. Mr Greiner has headed SHKP’s hotels arm since 2002.
During his tenure, he was instrumental in the strategic expansion of SHKP’s hotel portfolio, including the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel,
Hong Kong and adjoining 519-suite Four Seasons Place at
IFC, which opened in 2005.
Other major hotel developments include the new Ritz Carlton and W hotels at ICC, above Kowloon Station on the Airport Express, and their
sister properties in Shanghai.
Aged 68, Mr Greiner is continuing his career-long association with the hotel industry in consultancy
- dividing his time between Asia,
Europe and also Cuba, where he has been closely involved in the restoration and development of the Saratoga, a magnificent 5-star plus
boutique hotel in Old Havana.
His other projects in Cuba include a 52 all-suite boutique hotel adjacent to the Partagas Cigar Factory in Havana, and four more boutique
hotels on the Caribbean island in Santiago de Cuba, Trinidad, Cienfuegos and the UNESCO protected area of
Vinales.
“From my early hotel career in Mexico and the Caribbean, Latin America – and especially Cuba – has always held a special place in my
heart,” he said.
“The opportunity and time has now come to realise my dreams and vision for this very special part of the world.
“Long isolated from the modern world, Cuba is one of the last lands of true opportunity for 5-star hotel development and I am delighted to
have this opportunity to contribute to it.”
Mr Greiner, a former Chairman of the Hong Kong Hotels Association, is one of Hong Kong’s most prominent hoteliers.
