The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre has won the World Travel Award for Australasia’s Leading Conference Centre for the third
consecutive year. The World Travel Awards are voted on by travel professionals around the globe.
The Centre was chosen from a field of six finalists, including conference centres in Auckland, Cairns, Melbourne and Wellington, as well as
the luxurious Langham Hotel Auckland.
Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said,
“I am very proud to head a team of dedicated and professional people, who are committed to achieving quality in everything they
do. This award recognises the quality of their work as they continually exceed clients’ expectations and set new
benchmarks for our industry.”
Mr van Amerongen said the award also underlined Sydney’s leadership in the business events arena as confirmed by the recent 2007
International Congress & Convention Association rankings, which place Sydney as Australia’s number one city for conventions.
The
centre plays a major role in Sydney’s meeting calendar, hosting a string of large events such as the 2007 Asia-Pacific
Economic Cooperation Forum. It will also be the venue for Sydney’s latest event win, the 2013 World Conference on Lung Cancer, which
will attract up to 8000 delegates.
“Sydney is an exceptionally appealing city, but it is also an exceptionally professional city and, in an increasingly competitive environment,
we continue to work hard to win our business and please our clients,” Mr van Amerongen said.
