Finnair traffic, measured in passenger kilometres, increased by 9.3% in
August 2008, while the capacity was up by 5%, resulting in a passenger load
factor of 80.3% or 3.2 points higher than last year. Finnair transported altogether 723,312 passengers, which is 1.8% more than a year ago.
Finnair scheduled traffic increased by
7% compared to August 2007. The number of passengers carried on scheduled flights was 610,054,
which is 0.9% less than in 2007. Passenger load factor in scheduled passenger traffic was
79%, 1.8 percentage points higher than last year.
Finnairs Asian traffic grew 13.4% compared to August of the previous year.
The number of passengers carried on Finnairs Asian flights in August was 132,778, which is 13.8% more than a year ago. RPKs in European traffic decreased by 0.4% and passenger load factor increased by 0.6
percentage points to 71.1%.
Leisure flights passenger load factor increased by
11 percentage points to 87.5% compared to the previous year.
Arrival punctuality of Finnair flights was 85.2%, which is 2.7 percentage points higher than in August 2008. Arrival punctuality of scheduled
flights went up 3.4 points and was 87.1%.
In scheduled international traffic,
the total number of passengers was up by 3.4%. Capacity in ASKs was 5.7%, while RPKs increased by 7.9%.
In European scheduled traffic, ASKs decreased by 1.2%, and as RPKs decreased by 0.4%, the passenger load factor was 71.1%, up 0.6 points
over the previous year.
In North Atlantic scheduled traffic, capacity was
the same. Change in RPKs was 5.9%, and passenger load factor for was 91.7%, 5.1 points higher
than the previous year.
In Asian scheduled traffic,
the capacity increase was 11.4%. Passenger traffic was up by 13.4%. The
passenger load factor was 84%, 1.4 percentage points up.
Domestic scheduled traffic decreased by
16% on a capacity decrease of 17.3%. Passenger load factor increased by
1 percentage point to 62.7%
ASKs for leisure traffic increased in August by 7.2%, and RPKs increased by 22.6%, resulting in a passenger load factor of 87.5%,
11 points higher than last year.
Cargo
Cargo traffic increased by
4% in terms of cargo tonnes carried. Growth in scheduled traffic was 6%. Increase in Asian traffic was
17%. Volume in European traffic decreased by 14.1%. In North-Atlantic traffic cargo volume decreased by 14.3%. Cargo traffic carried on chartered
cargo flights decreased by 39.7%. The cargo load factor in the Far Eastern traffic was 67.8% and in the North Atlantic traffic 66.2%.
