Beginning
today, the Cotai Strip CotaiJet high-speed Hong Kong - Macau ferry service,
which is managed and operated by Cotai Chu Kong Shipping Management Services Co., Ltd. of
Hong Kong and uses ferries purchased by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp., will initiate evening sailings and operate with more frequent service
during important peak hours.
In addition to its routes operating between the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong and the Taipa Temporary Ferry
Terminal in Macau, CotaiJet also has plans to operate ferry services between the Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
and the Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal.
“The expanded CotaiJet ferry service will provide a viable transportation option for visitors who come to
Macau for conventions and
exhibitions, family leisure, and arena and theater entertainment, such as the
Cirque du
Soleil show ZAIA, which begins this summer,”
said Mr. Stephen Weaver, president of Las Vegas Sands Corp’s. Asian region. “The increased frequency and later sailing hours will help
reduce the waiting times for visitors coming to Macau during peak travel periods and ease traffic congestion on the
Macau peninsula, thus
enhancing the overall experience for visitors.”
CotaiJet’s expanded roundtrip daily ferry service between Hong Kong and
Macau will now run from 7:00 am to 11:30 pm. Between the
hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., CotaiJet will operate with service every 30 minutes instead of its current one-hour intervals. The additional routes will increase the capacity of the current CotaiJet service by 250%. Over time, the company
plans to operate the service in 15-minute intervals and on a 24-hour a day basis.
“For
Macau to reach its potential as a world-class business and leisure destination, it must continue investing in the transportation
infrastructure that will enable more convenient access to the world-class amenities Macao now has to offer,”
Weaver added. “These
expanded ferry services will help improve and expand that access and will allow more visitors from across the region and around the world
to contribute to Macao’s continuing transformation into an international leisure and business destination.”
CotaiJet features custom-built ferries capable of carrying more than 400 passengers and traveling at top speeds of close to 42 knots.
