British Airways and VisitBritain
have launched a fresh set of 'Best of Britain' packages, offering travellers the opportunity to experience the best that the country has to offer at affordable
prices.
Starting from
Sin$1,322, there are six packages to choose from and each is tied to a unique region in Britain. These are London and the
Southeast, the Heart of England, England's North country, South West England, Scotland and Wales. Comprising return flights on British
Airways and accommodation, the packages are available until 31 October 2007.
Notable sights in England include London's Traflagar Square, home to Nelson's Column, and the National Gallery, which houses one of the
greatest collections of European art. Indeed, art lovers can make a day of the Tate Modern and Tate Britain which contain some of the finest
contemporary and sixteenth century artworks respectively in the world.
Enjoying an ice cream while overlooking the Serpentine Lake in the famous Hyde Park requires little if no financial outlay either,
nor does a picnic to accompany one of the legendary brass band performances in picturesque St James Park with its royal,
political and literary associations.
Visitors can also spend a delightful day in nearby Brighton, exploring the toy gallery, learning about film and crafts at the Hove Museum and
Art gallery, or taking a trip to historic Windsor in Royal Borough and watch life go by along the River Thames.
Meanwhile, Wales is the ideal spot for nature lovers as it boasts three National Parks and over 750 miles of coastline. One can trek Offa's
Dyke, the 8th century border wall between Wales and England, scale mountains in Snowdonia and catch the world's 9th most photographed
sunset at Worm's Head, Rhossilli Bay.
Further north, Edinburgh is best enjoyed on foot, whether to experience the Old Town and neo-classical Georgian New Town or to walk the
Royal Mile from Edinburgh castle to Holyroodhouse. The spectacular Scottish countryside can be best enjoyed by taking day trips to the
Lothian countryside and mingling with the locals at the historic fishing port of Dunbar.
"It is said that the best things in life are
free," said Steve Limbrick, Regional General Manager South East Asia, British Airways. "In Britain, a
country steeped in history and culture, many of the famed attractions are free, yet very few tourists realise how much they can do without
burning a hole in their pockets."
