On
Wednesday, The Langham Hotel Auckland was awarded the top hotel as well as the top overall visitor
accommodation at the Tourism Industry Awards celebration dinner held in Auckland.
This win follows the property's
Best New Zealand City Hotel win earlier in the month at the 2007 HM
Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence held in Sydney.
The Langham brand entered New Zealand in January 2005 and has since invested more than NZ$14
million in their Symonds Street property. The Langham has gone against the current minimalist
décor trend and instead created an elegant, opulent and somewhat theatrical environment offering
guests an authentic five-star experience unique in New Zealand.
Visitor Accommodation is one of four major categories awarded by the Tourism Industry Association
of New Zealand. Winning the award has been part of a rigorous eight month process for The
Langham. This process has included providing information on the property's leadership, strategic planning, innovation and business
results.
"We are absolutely thrilled with this achievement. I have never come across such a rigorous process to establish a winner which in itself
provides the awards a significant amount of credibility" said The Langham Hotel Auckland's managing director Mr John Dick.
The Langham Hotel Auckland is a full-service, five-star, 410 room property with seven different room and suite categories. It is one of only
two New Zealand 'Leading Hotels of the World', an association representing the world's finest five-star hotels. The
hotel also features five restaurants and lounges including Partingtons (the current New Zealand Restaurant of the Year, NZ Culinary Fare), a health club, heated
outdoor pool, complimentary inner-city shuttle and a luxury limousine fleet.
Other hotel finalists in the Visitor Accommodation category included last year's winner
the Heritage Queenstown along with the Hilton Auckland and
The George in Christchurch.
