Kjell Rognoy, an industry veteran with 27 years experience in the hospitality business, has been appointed General Manager of The Regent
Shanghai in China. Kjell is an accomplished professional with an excellent track record in hotel management and has been managing
numerous five-star and luxury hotels across Asia, the Middle East and the United States.
Kjell
has worked with groups such as Starwood, Marriott and Mandarin Oriental. Prior to joining The Regent Shanghai, Kjell was assisting the owners of the Global Touristic Company with the
pre-opening and opening of the Reef Oasis Blue Bay Resort & Spa in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, a 650-room all-inclusive luxury resort
featuring a world-renown spa and 12 restaurants.
From 2003-2007, Kjell was the General Manager at the Sheraton Jeddah Hotel and Resorts in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, followed by the JW
Marriott in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he maintained one of the strongest revenue performances among the top hotels in the capital city,
even during the SARS epidemic. He also assisted the owners of the JW Marriott, YTL Hotels and Properties, with the opening of the
35-storey luxury Ritz Carlton Residences and the Starhill Conference
Centre.
As a Hotel Manager with Boston Park Plaza Hotel, a Starwood property, Kjell was instrumental in the negotiation of the Tenant Agreements
with famed Whiskey Blue by the nightlife tycoon Rande Gerber, Argentinian Steakhouse by the award-winning Chef Todd English, and the
famous Steak and Seafood Restaurant McCormick & Schmick.
Kjell, who is Norwegian, majored in Hotel and Restaurant Management with a diploma with the Government of Norway and has attended
a Masters in Business Administration program with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology during his tenure with the Mandarin Oriental
Hotel Group. He is married and has a 13-year-old son.
