Today, Japan Airlines (JAL)
launches start codesharing on the Osaka - Brisbane - Sydney - Osaka route on flights operated by Jetstar
(JQ).
JAL’s ‘JL’ designator will be placed on Jetstar flights which operate daily on the triangular routing linking Japan and Australia. The codeshare
agreement only covers economy class on these flights.
Fares issued by JAL
under the codeshare will be inclusive of meals and soft drinks. Alcoholic drinks and additional snacks will be available for purchase onboard.
Jetstar is a wholly owned subsidiary airline of Qantas. The airline started flights within Australia on May 25, 2004. The Australian airline first
started operating to Japan on March 25, 2007.
JAL suspended its own flights on this route on March 24 2007 from Japan and on March 25 from Australia. The new codeshare arrangement with
Jetstar enables JAL to maintain its network between Osaka and Australia.
JAL currently operates 1 daily flight between Tokyo (Narita) - Brisbane, and 1 daily flight Tokyo (Narita) - Sydney. It also offers passengers codeshare flights operated by Qantas between the two countries: 1 daily flight Tokyo (Narita) - Cairns, and a thrice-weekly service between Tokyo
(Narita) - Melbourne.
