Major features of Finnairs summer timetable that
came into effect Sunday, March 25, include the launch of new routes to Bucharest, Gdansk, Lisbon,
Ljubljana and Nuremburg. Mumbai in India is another completely new destination to be launched on June 17, with the five-weekly service
continuing Finnairs Asian strategy and responding to increased demand for flights to this region.
Mumbai was chosen as a new long-haul destination because of great demand and in response to requests from Finnish and Indian customers,
said Petteri Kostermaa, responsible for scheduled route strategy at Finnair. Mumbai is Indias biggest business city and centre of business and
logistics. Indias most affluent population live in the area, too, so there is big potential for tourist traffic to Europe.
Finnairs traffic to China will be boosted in May when flights to Hong Kong increase from four a week to daily and a fourth weekly frequency to
Guangzhou will also be added.
In another advancement of its successful Asian strategy, Finnair is also boosting service to Japan. Weekly frequencies to the cities of Tokyo,
Osaka and Nagoya will be increased to 15 in total.
Flights to Lisbon, a popular year-round tourist destination, get under way on March 29. The capital of Slovenia, Ljbuljana, will be served four
times a week by Finnair flights as of April 6, with the inaugural flight to Bucharest, the capital of new EU-member Romania, following soon after on
April 10. April 11 will see flights begin to Gdansk, the historic Polish Baltic port, and flights to the northern Bavarian city of Nuremberg in Germany
are launched on May 5.
Summer-only flights will also be operated to Dublin (April 6-September 30), Edinburgh (April 4-September 30), Krkow (April 5-September 30), Pisa
(May 11-September 25), and Venice (April 6-October 1).
No major changes are planned for Finnairs domestic network as the summer timetable takes effect.
