Gourmet Dining at the Banyan Tree Bintan

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 25 July 2007

After the launch of four dining experiences in 2006, Banyan Tree Bintan has upped the ante with two new specially designed dining destinations. Reflection and Fishermans Table are now available to guests at the Banyan Tree Bintan and Angsana Resorts and Spas Bintan. In addition, guests at Banyan Tree Bintan can now also enjoy yoga breakfasts at One Degree North, a specially built rustic balau pavilion located in the heart of a mangrove beach  area.

The resorts are located less than an hour away by high-speed ferry from Singapore, making for an ideal romantic day or overnight sojourn.

Reflection is a dramatic dinner experience hosted on the calm surface of the Rock Edge Pool at the Banyan Tree Bintan. As dusk approaches, a floating platform is built over the pool to accommodate a private table for two, surrounded by reflections of majestic trees. Suffused by candlelight as the sun sets over the horizon, the couple dines on an Asian-accented five-course continental degustation, with items such as steamed black cod with sabayon of Sumatran red curry. The highlight of the meal is the precious dessert of Coffee Luwak Mousse, prepared from the rare Central Javanese Highland Coffee Beans, the most expensive in the world. Reflection is tailored especially for one couple a night, and is priced at US$149++ per person. Reflection is also available as part of a wedding package for guests seeking a memorable union ceremony.

Fishermans Table: Authentic seafood is the lure at this gastronomic beach destination. Fishermans Table is a spread of finely calibrated seafood specialties, which diners enjoy while seated in a traditional fishermans boat with the sand beneath their toes. The highlight is wok-fried chilli crab from Bintans mangroves served with bok choy, mango chutney and steamed jasmine rice. Fishermans Table is priced at US$90++ per person, up to a table of six.

Yoga Breakfast: An invigorating way to greet the dawn is with the Yoga Breakfast programme, conducted in an indigenous balau wood pavilion called One Degree North. The in-house yoga instructor tailors a one-hour yoga programme suitable for different levels. After the exertions, guests enjoy a modern Indonesian breakfast consisting of serabi, coconut rice pancake with palm sugar sauce, as well as telor dadar, white vegetable omelette. A selection of healthy Indonesian cinnamon muffins, tropical fruits, pear frozen yogurt and a chilled turmeric and tamarind refresher, completes the experience. The Yoga Breakfast is US$30++ per person.

Room rates at the Banyan Tree Bintan start from US$470++ per villa per night.
